Under the Care Standards Act 2000, the Registered Provider is the person or authority that owns or is carrying on a Children's Home, a group of Homes or providing an Independent Fostering Service or Voluntary Adoption Agency.

Where the Registered Provider is a corporate body, such as a Local Authority or a Limited Company, a Responsible Individual must be appointed, who has delegated responsibility for the running of the service/home.
